i have to say it...i LOVE anything moffo. as far as i'm concerned the woman can do no wrong. if you are an opera singer, especially a soprano, and you have not listened to her you should be drawn and quartered. some may call me crazy or extreme, but that is how it is. and if you asked my boyfriend he would tell you that i'm right all the time ; )

I believe that Anna Moffo sang THREE roles that were absolutely perfect for her voice: Lucia, Cio-Cio San and Mimi (Boheme). She was an OK Verdian (e.g., Gilda), but it was in the lighter, etherial roles that she shined. Her duet with Carlo Bergonzi at the end of the first act of "Lucia" is perhaps the most exquisite version of a love song I've ever heard in opera.
I agree with much that you wrote, however, I would have to add that of all, Moffo's Gilda and Violetta are my favorites. I am wondering if she ever recorded I Puritani. Sills' over the top performance of Elvira is a turn-off; Sutherland's is lackluster. Gruberova gave the best live one I've ever heard. I'd like to own both Moffo's and Gruberova's if available
